Pet Diner

Looking for a new place for your kitty to eat? Want something up to date as well as earth friendly? We have the perfect thing! This modern raised cat feeder is made solidly of Bamboo; with a water resistant finish and two top of the line stainless steel bowls. Bamboo can grow up to a rate of one meter a day. This means that when you cut a tree that is 60 years old, it will take 60 years to replace that tree. Bamboo allows you to cut them down and they will return in about 60 days! That’s a huge difference. Not only is bamboo great at growing, but also is quite strong. Some people in the tropics can build houses out of bamboo! There are also over 1000 species of bamboo, each with a distinctive natual beauty. This Pet Diner will be sure you last you along time in your home, but it will be doing the earth a great favor as well.

Sly’s Stylish Modern Cat Condo

RONDO Wall Modern Cat CondoSly’s modern cat condo arrived this weekend. First, let me extol the excellent packing, delivered in perfect condition even though it traveled all the way from Germany! I am a bit like Rachel Maddow is about infrastructure when it comes to realistic packing. The very second I got it out of the box, Sly was in it! He adores it so much we haven’t had a chance to mount it on the wall. Every time there’s a lull in the chore list I think, now I’ll get the Rondo installed, he’s asleep in it! It is extremely-well made and so beautiful that even if he hadn’t become so attached to it right “out of the box” I would have been happy enough with it to find other uses for it [a multi-purpose cat condo!!] But he does love it so it’s a huge success all round. Thanks! – Diane

Lady Jane’s “Cat Talk”

Author: Lady Jane

platform-c-cat-tower.jpgWe all know cats are born to the hunt! It is their basic nature. Cats are endowed with sensitive vision, hearing and preying qualities. These qualities give them the survival instincts necessary for hunting.

As kittens, their games encompass the development of the needed skills, such as stalking, pouncing and catching things. Indoor cats as well as outdoor cats love the hunting games that enable them to develop their speed, range of motion and pouncing skills. The Platform C Cat Tower provides plenty of opportuntiy for the cats and kittens to practice their climbing abilities. Beyond their games for development, cats and kittens need their yearly checkups, and keeping their shots up to date. A good quality food that provides a balanced diet is essential. It is a good idea to monitor your cats habits because the can hide their illnesses very well.”Cat proofing” your home also ensures a healthy lifestyle for your cats. It is important to make sure no rat poisons, antifreeze, medications or trash are within their access. Cats love and will chew and swallow lengths of yarn, ribbons, thread (watch your needles and pins), string and like items. All of these things are cause for a trip to your vet.

The Typist and his Cat Cocoon

Author: Lady Jane

cat-and-typewriter.jpgIt was a Sunday afternoon; my mother was a writer and had her typewriter on the dining room table. She had been working on her novel earlier in the day. Relatives came and we were all sitting in the living room talking, and waiting for dinner. All of a sudden we heard the keys of the typewriter clicking while mom was in the kitchen preparing dinner. Well, as we trooped into the dining room to see what was going on, it was quite a sight! There was the cat up on the table playing with the typewriter keys. He would press a key with one paw, and bat it with the other paw. (This, of course, was a manual typewriter). We were all entertained and made comments as to how cute it was! The cat was removed from the table, and went to his Cat Cocoon while we went in the kitchen to dinner. Halfway through dinner, we heard the dog barking in the dining room. Everyone was curious to see what was going on, and went in to find the dog sitting on the table with her paw on the typewriter. She wanted her share of the “limelight” too.

Don’t Let Sleeping Cats Lie!

Don’t Let Sleeping Cats Lie!

When people are looking for cat beds, they often go to some mass retailer and pick up the cheapest thing that resembles a cushion. And for the most part, cats do tend to sleep on these products. But many people find that their cats consistently sleep where they are not supposed to sleep. Many times, they’ll find the comfiest place in the house and set up shop, and this means that they can often be found on the dining room chair cushions or perhaps even stretched out on the couch with his head resting on a decorative pillow.

Some owners don’t mind this behavior, but especially if your cat is long haired or an outdoor cat, that can quickly damage these cushions. Plus, it’s a downright inconvenience to continually clean off the hair from your chairs just because your cat has claimed it has his own. One way to deter this behavior is by investing in a higher quality cat bed. Luxury cat beds are specially designed with cats in mind, and as such, they are more likely to attract and keep your cat’s attention.

Little Lotus Cat Tree

Fritz was a large, black and white angora tomcat who was part of our family when I was a child.  He had a friendly disposition, coupled with an attitude of superiority.  His favorite spot for his afternoon nap was my Dad’s big armchair.  Now, Fritz knew who the rightful owner of the chair was.  If he came into the living room, and Dad was in the chair, Fritz would just go to his Little Lotus Cat Tree for his nap.  But it was a different story if someone else was sitting in the chair.  Fritz would pace back and forth in front of the offending person; head and tail held high, meowing occasionally until whoever it was would get up and move, just to get some peace.  The conquering hero would then contentedly take over the soft chair in the sunny window.

The KatKabin Teaser

Author: Lady Jane

cat-on-railing.jpgIt was summer and our big, fluffy cat, John, loved to be outside.  One bright sunny day a mockingbird landed on our fence and spied the cat! Well, the bird took it from there. He taunted the cat who naturally, went after him. The jumped up on the fence, but the wily bird flew up to the roof. The cat leaped up to the roof and the bird flew down to the picnic table. The cat landed on the picnic table and the bird took off to the fence. When the cat tired of the chase he would retire to his KatKabin.  The bird would then sit on the fence and call, “kitty, kitty, kitty”, until the cat would flatten his ears and shoot out of the Kat Kabin and resume the chase.  After a month, the bird finally tired of taunting the cat and flew off. Once again our summer days were quiet and restful and the cat could enjoy the yard.

A Better Breed of Litter Box

A Better Breed of Litter Box

If you’re sick of having a plastic tub full of kitty litter shoved in the back of your home, you are probably ready for a better kind of litter box. Most cat litter boxes are completely exposed and open air, and this makes for embarrassing odors when you have people over. So if you’re sick of throwing the litter box outside anytime somebody is going to come over, look into enclosed litter boxes.

These look more like an end table than a litter box, and they are often available in varying types and colors of wood. When you’re shopping around for this next generation of litter box, just make sure it’s easy to clean. Appearance is a fantastic bonus, but functionality still has to come first. Make sure it’s a good fit for the size of your cat, and make sure the litter can be changed with minimal effort. If you can find a model that fulfills those requirements, you can truly have the best of both worlds when it comes to litter boxes.

A Bird in a Cat Carrier?

Author: Lady Jane

outdoor-cat.jpgWe all know about our cats and their sometimes not so wonderful hunting abilities. Some cats really like to show off their trophies and ours was no exception. It was just around suppertime when the cat raced in to show us his prize.   It was a bird! The bird, still alive, escaped from his jaws and fluttered around the kitchen. We captured the bird and placed it safely in the cat’s carrier. The next day, we took the little bird to Game Management. They took one look at our little bird and told us it was a baby Fly-Catcher and were surprised it had survived in the carrier overnight. The carrier door was opened. The bird escaped and flew around the office. One of the gentlemen there scooped it up in his hand. When he opened up his hand, the tiny bird had a firm grip with his little beak on a finger. He commented, “This one is a survivor”.

We brought the carrier home and the cat crawled in looking for his bird. After discovering the bird was missing, he looked at us and spit, scooted out of the carrier and furiously stalked outside with his ears flattened. He had to go and replace his trophy!
