“Green” Pet Diner

Looking for a new place for your kitty to eat? Want something up to date as well as earth friendly? We have the perfect thing! This Pet Diner is made solidly of Bamboo; with a water resistant finish and two top of the line stainless steel bowls. Bamboo can grow up to a rate of one meter a day. This means that when you cut a tree that is 60 years old, it will take 60 years to replace that tree. Bamboo allows you to cut them down and they will return in about 60 days! That’s a huge difference. Not only is bamboo great at growing, but also is quite strong. Some people in the tropics can build houses out of bamboo! There are also over 1000 species of bamboo, each with a distinctive natual beauty. This Pet Diner will be sure you last you along time in your home, but it will be doing the earth a great favor as well.
Mint-Flavored Cat
A big, sleek black cat, appropriately named “Midnight”, rules his household consisting of two “mini-pin” dogs, two female cats, and of course, his human family. He loves to keep everyone in line! One thing he will step out of line for is anything peppermint flavored or smelling like mint. Whenever anyone visits with a purse, they are warned to watch out for him. He will get into the purse for gum or mint candy and is very clever about getting the purses open. Finally, his human family solved the problem! They bought him a special Maow Cat Feeder of his very own. When they served his dinner in his new bowl, they added a mint leaf. Now, he no longer attacks purses or pockets for chewing gum or mints. He has his very own supply!
Bridal Shower for a Cat?
When my sister met her husband, they were both young singles sharing apartments with their respective cats. Their big concern was whether or not their cats would be compatible. After much growling and hissing, the cats came to terms and decided they liked each other. Whenever they were together they played and played and had a really good time.A bridal shower was given for my sister by her friends (many of them are cat lovers). After opening her gifts, several large packages were still sitting on the floor. When she questioned someone about them, they brought them over to her. What a surprise when she opened them! She started giggling before revealing the contents. There was a cat tree, a kitty condo, and hand painted feeding bowls! Her friends had decided that her cat needed a bridal shower too.

Rita Hayworth, or a Cat Named Ritz

We had been adopted by a big orange tabby who had decided our home in the country was better than living in the woods. My neighbor had been feeding her using her custom pet feeder off and on for two years, and named her “Rita” after Rita Hayworth…another beautiful redhead.I took the cat to the veterinarian for shots and a check-up since she had decided she was now a “house-cat”.
I explained to the Vet that I had no knowledge of her background but that I believed that she had been spayed since she had never had kittens during the time my neighbor had known her. The Vet smiled. “Well,” he said. “The reason this cat has not had kittens is that “Rita” is a male.” Needless to say, I was quite embarrassed. He also told me that “Rita” had, in fact, been neutered. He asked why my friend had assumed the cat was female. I said, “I don’t know except that it has such a pretty face.” At that, the Vet laughed out loud and said, “Tell her for me that the next time she wants to find out a cat’s gender she needs to check the other end!”
And now, for the rest of the story…we tried renaming HIM “Ritz” however, we still kept calling him “Rita”.
More Lady Jane “Cat Facts”
Cats
are natural hunters and predators. It is no wonder they become active during the middle of the night! Mice and small prey come out after dark and the cats “natural instincts” seem to take over at that time.
If your cat is a house pet, evenings are for playing predatory and hunting games. The theory offered is that perhaps the cats don’t get enough play and exercise during the day. Young cats have an abundance of energy, and new kittens often feel insecure in new family surroundings, which factor in to promoting nocturnal activity.
Lady Jane offers some possible solutions:
Ø Help a new kitten to feel more secure by cuddling and gently petting it.
Ø Provide more opportunities for play at appropriate times ceasing at least an hour before bedtime.
Ø If necessary, confine the cat to a bedroom or bathroom providing food and water in their pet feeder, litter box, and a scratching post.
Ø Keep a spray bottle or gun-shaped hair dryer by the bed to thwart nighttime playful attacks.
Remember, each cat is an individual and by trial and error you can arrive at an acceptable solution for both of you.
Does Your Cat Have Ethnic Tastes?
Cats really are amazing and definitely have individual characteristics. “Alex” showed his preference to us in a rather startling way. It was close to the Christmas Holidays and I was preparing some herb rice mixes for gifts. I was using a sauce pan and set it on the stove (no heat). The doorbell rang and I left the kitchen. To my dismay, upon returning to the kitchen my big black cat, Alex, was trying to stuff himself into the sauce pan. After removing the cat, and emptying the saucepan, I sprinkled some Oregano on the floor to see what would happen. Within seconds Alex was rolling, leaping and happily munching the oregano just as though it was catnip.
Several ensuing incidents further reinforced the fact that he had a definite affinity for Italian food. A pizza was delivered and set on the table. As soon as he got a whiff of the pizza Alex jumped onto the table and was doing his best to get the box open. He succeeded and enjoyed the pizza.
The next event amused the entire family. I was preparing a spaghetti dinner and of course, Alex was hanging around in the kitchen. As an experiment, we put a small amount of spaghetti in a little bowl and placed it in front of him. He looked at it, sat down and proceeded to take a paw and scoop up a few noodles and eat them from his paw. He ate the entire bowl that way! After that, he always had spaghetti with us and I kept waiting for him to order garlic bread and a salad!
Pesky Ants Eating Cat Food

Last month, I was talking to my bug-guy, Bob. He’s friendly and very knowledgeable. I asked him what I could do about the tiny ants (I call Sugar ants, but I have no idea!) getting into Doofie’s cat feeder. I keep a small bowl of food handy for her all the time in our kitchen area. I haven’t notice an ant problem other than the ones attracted to her food. I didn’t want to spray chemicals around her food-area because she often removes a piece of food and eats it off the floor. He had a terrific suggestion: place the bowl in a saucer filled with water. Bingo …works like a charm! I’ve noticed too, she’s eating more dry food now, which makes sense. Who would enjoy sticking their nose into a bowl with ants on the chance that they’d be bit? Thanks, Bob … and he didn’t charge extra for his advice! The perfect Ant-Be-Gone remedy!
