Cat Views

We’ve been adding new cat furniture to our site like crazy lately, and still a stack of products to come! This week we uploaded products from Mr. Herzher’s pet furnishings. I managed to published onto a general product-line page but without the linking to the actual products because I was waiting on some detail information from the supplier. While on the phone with the supplier yesterday, I received and email inquiry about their designer cat tree. I replied, indicating it was brand new “in process” sending her a link to the actual product page. Before I finished with the supplier, here came an order! Unbelievable! I wish every order was that fluid!

A big, sleek black cat, appropriately named “Midnight”, rules his household consisting of two “mini-pin” dogs, two female cats, and of course, his human family. He loves to keep everyone in line! One thing he will step out of line for is anything peppermint flavored or smelling like mint. Whenever anyone visits with a purse, they are warned to watch out for him. He will get into the purse for gum or mint candy and is very clever about getting the purses open. Finally, his human family solved the problem! A much anticipated long summer vacation included a camping trip to Yellowstone National Park was about to begin. With several children and a very large cat in tow, we packed our supplies in the old station wagon.

We arrived at Yellowstone Park anxious to explore. The camp was set up and the Wicker Pet Crate Cabinet placed in the car, and off we went.

When my sister met her husband, they were both young singles sharing apartments with their respective cats. Their big concern was whether or not their cats would be compatible. After much growling and hissing, the cats came to terms and decided they liked each other. Whenever they were together they played and played and had a really good time.A bridal shower was given for my sister by her friends (many of them are cat lovers). After opening her gifts, several large packages were still sitting on the floor. When she questioned someone about them, they brought them over to her. What a surprise when she opened them! She started giggling before revealing the contents. There was a cat tree, a kitty condo, and hand painted feeding bowls! Her friends had decided that her cat needed a bridal shower too.

Animals can be as funny and a quirky as humans. If you take the time to get to know them, you know they all have distinct personalities. Some have very definite prejudices towards people and foods. My daughter inherited two gorgeous chows when she got married. She had two middle aged to elderly cats.

The female cat is rather docile but the male will stand against people or animals if he thinks his territory is threatened. The female chow was the aggressive one while the male was pretty laid back and would only sometimes follow her lead. Whenever the front doorbell would ring, the female dog (Sasha) would chase the female cat (Sugar) down the hall and into the bedroom. One day, Sasha mistakenly chased the male cat (Chess) down the hall, and reaching the bedroom door; he turned and stared her down. She was so surprised when he stood up to her; she actually backed her way down the hall. When she left, he went into the room and curled up on the top of his cat condo to keep an eye on things.

Fritz was a big black and white angora tom cat who lived with us on the farm when I was a child. He was supposed to be a barn cat, but his superior attitude and deference to my mother earned him a place in the house. Still…he was a “tom” and would often spend nights out sowing his “wild oats”. One rainy summer night he was yowling at the back door to be let in. He came in, but not alone. He brought a guest, a small undernourished female, wet and bedraggled. I grabbed a towel and dried her off discovering that she was pregnant! Naturally, we had to adopt her! I took over the care of “Missy” and tried to make her comfortable in a box in my room. She preferred to be in my toy box among my doll clothes. Mom bought her a beautiful knitted cat bed, I placed a doll blanket in it and she happily curled up in the cat bed. Missy accepted the cat bed just in time as 3 days later she gave birth to 4 beautiful kittens, one black and three black and white just like Fritz.

When my present cat, “Lady Jane” came to live with us, we were delighted.  She had been surviving on her own after being abandoned.  My daughter delivered her to our home and while she was here, the cat cuddled in her lap. When she left, Lady Jane promptly did the “catly thing” and hissed at the dog. He had been excited about her arrival, and was crestfallen when she hissed. He sulked, and she went under the bed.  She spent the next three days under there.  We even had to feed her under the bed. After she decided to come out from under the bed, she was still hesitant to mingle with the family.  However, once she became accustomed to the family’s lifestyle, it became THE CAT RULES!  She even demanded her own personal cat bed.
